It’s disturbing to see someone take something that is not theirs.  One can take measures to lock the front door, put all their passwords in a password keeper app, and maybe even install an alarm on their car.  In business we want to all safeguard our investments. Payroll theft is nothing to take lightly and safeguarding your payroll practice is definitely a good investment to make.

If you are a small business owner, your payroll security is CRUCIAL to the long term success of your business. Here are some important things you should know about payroll theft taken from  American Payroll and Pay News Now

Here are 4 things you should know:

  1. Unexpected guests: The IRS notes to be particularly cautious of email and phone scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS will NEVER make contact with a taxpayer via email, text, or social media. If you receive one of these saying they are with the IRS – BEWARE!
  2. Passwords and PINS: NEVER give these out to anyone claiming they are with the IRS. Information such as passwords, PINS, and banking information will never be asked for if you are talking with someone from the IRS.
  3. SSN or Tax IN: Do not carry anything on you that has your Social Security Number or your Tax Identification Number. Also, never gives this information to a business unless it is a requirement.
  4. Your credit: Check your credit report every month for suspicious activity.

Following these suggestion can save you time and money, something very hard to replace. Take a moment to visit with your payroll administrator to insure you are practicing safe measures with your payroll!
