Many companies struggle with effective ways to improve employee performance.

In an ever-changing, technologically advanced world, it can be difficult to keep employees on track, and working toward a goal that both they and the company are proud of.

Combine this with millennials coming to age with radically different ideas about what a job should look and feel like, it can be difficult to strike a balance between work and growth activities.

Read on for a few great ways you can improve employee performance effectively.

Encouragement

I know what you’re thinking: encouragement? This seems like an arbitrary and simple-minded answer.

But you would be surprised at the statistics coming from those who leave their jobs. Many times, it is not the job itself or the pay — it’s management.

Far too many employees feel as though their work for the company is not valued, and therefore they will leave or do the bare minimum to stay employed.

The secret to a great workforce is to encourage your employees in whatever way you can.

It doesn’t have to be a big deal; just a simple compliment on a well-done presentation will show the employee that you notice the hard work they put in.

Team Building

Another way you can improve employee performance is through team building.

Employees should feel a sort of camaraderie with their coworkers, which doesn’t happen if they are sitting in individual cubicles all day.

Every once in a while, it’s good to pull everyone into a meeting and make sure everyone knows each other and is getting along.

People who genuinely like their coworkers are more likely to reach out and collaborate, which could lead to great projects and even better numbers for your business.

Small Incentives

Lastly, small incentives are always a great reward system.

Again, this doesn’t have to be a big deal, and it certainly doesn’t have to blow a hold in your budget.

Biweekly contests (based on output) for even just a $10 gift card is something to let employees know they are appreciated.

You could also try free coffee/tea in the office, or Friday breakfasts once a month.

At the end of the day, employees who feel as though their work is appreciated and is making a difference will always do more.

They will feel compelled to go above and beyond in their work because they know that it will be recognized.

Studies have shown that millennials especially need to have purpose in their work.

Some economists are even predicting that the workforce will go through a complete reboot to reflect of this trend.
